The One About the Yellowcard Concert

Okay, so I went to my first proper concert tonight, right? Like, I've seen live music before, but that was different; not the cool, 'sitting around, having dinner while the band plays' kind of concert. No, tonight was different. Hillsong doesn't count either. So yeah, tonight was my first actual rock concert experience. It was pretty fucking awesome! Even though Yellowcard have been one of my favourite bands for a while now, I hadn't listened to them properly in quite some time. Still, you know a band rules when you can sing along to them for a good hour or so. Hmm, easy way to do this would be through my beloved bullet points:

  • The night started off rather inauspiciously. Avalon Drive opened up the night; they weren't too much to my liking. Plus, about five minutes into their set, the crowd near the front actually broke the barricades. Which meant, we had to wait two and a half fucking hours for them to replace it. Sigh. The good thing was, we missed the opening bands and went straight to YC.
  • The BETTER thing about the 150 minute break was seeing LP walking around amongst the crowd, most likely in attempt to appease an increasingly restless audience. The BEST thing about the wait was getting a chance to take a photo with LP. I tried my hardest to avoid groupie-ness, but it was kinda hard seeing as it was pretty fucking awesome to be that close to a pretty fucking awesome drummer.
  • We were a fair bit away from the stage at the start of the concert. However, once it started, I found myself (and none of the people I went with followed me, the bastards) drifting closer and closer to the stage; to the point where I had a pretty sweet view of the band. I even got to take some pretty clear pics of them performing. Awesome.
  • Moshing out, even though I'd experienced it a couple of times before, is approximately a billion times better when, a) the band is as cool as YC; and b) the band is live. It was awesome coming out of the mosh pit drenched in sweat. It was slightly less awesome knowing that most of the sweat wasn't mine. Okay, so it was pretty fucking gross, but it was worth it.
  • My ears felt weird immediately afterwards. They didn't hurt, but everything sounded a bit muffled. They're fine now, thankfully.
  • ADDENDUM: Sigh. Fucking little teenyboppers populating the SCENEry. Oh well, part of the deal when you're talking about an all ages gig.

To top this all off, I get to do it all over again next Sunday, seeing as Kanye West is coming to town. Fucking A. Anyways, later days!
